House Cuts Off Unemployment Extension
Ouch! Just in time for the holiday season, the House fails to pass a three-month extension of federal unemployment benefits which could leave as many as 4 million people broke when the payments expire at the end of November. Although 258 legislators were for the extention and 154 were opposed, the vote still didn’t get the required 275 votes or two-thirds majority needed to pass the bill. It is not clear whether the House will take the bill up again.
